We have just spent a weekend on the Calypso and would recommend this company and their boat. Lovely clean,spacious accomodation with en suite,great staff,great food and a well organised tour from start to finish. The bus from Hanoi takes 31/2-4 hours but it is airconditioned and well worth it. We felt 1 night was enough to see Halong bay but you can do 2 nights. Try not to go at the weekend if you can as the bay is very very busy.

Just returned from this wonderful destination and can highly recommed Calypso Cruises - a 4* junk. (3* sister ship is Ocean Sails) I trawled the internet and especially Tripadvisor in the weeks leading up to our visit looking for a 2 night cruise on Halong Bay. It was information overload so I waited until we got to Hanoi, went to the Old Town thinking a decision would be easier once I was there. Once there, information and advertising is so overwhelming.

Was recommended Calypso by the tour guide we used in Saigon and think we made an excellent choice, compared to other friends who travelled at the same time. Food was sensational - a work of art on many occasions. Our room was exactly how it appeared in their brochure. You can have a shower looking out to sea. We met some awesome people from Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Poland of all different age ranges and have kept in touch and swapped pics. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We didn't find the drinks expensive as per some reviews - $US2 for a beer. 15 minute cooking class on the first evening was a great ,ice-breaker, and yummy spring rolls.

The kayaking was relaxing and the 15 min climb to the top of the hill on the beach is recommended for some great views and shots - don't wear flip flops though!
I lost my camera on the Kayaking trip on Day 3 and the staff went to so much trouble to try and locate it for me. They called me at our hotel in Hanoi after we had finished the cruise to say they had located one - unfortunately it wasn't mine but another couple were thrilled to receive theirs back. Honest service.
