Phoenix is a mid-range cruiser on Halong bay. A series of junk boat are run by South Pacific Travel. The boats are owned by Hoa Binh boat company, Thanh Hung Boat company and one of them, the Spice is of the tour operator

We just returned from a 2 day cruise on The Phoenix. We were there on April 30/10 and can say we really enjoyed our time . The crew was very helpful, our guide was full of energy and little Hang our server is just a sweetheart. The cabin was adaquate and the meals were just wonderful. Lots of variety and many courses. We would recommend them highly.

Oh Dear- I have booked a Halong bay trip on this Phoenix Cruise and now I am reading there are mice- lots- on board! I am really panicing as we have a 3 and 5 year old.

Please, has somebody recently been on the Phoenix Cruiser with any positive or more negative opinions?

I have been on the Phoenix "Deluxe" Cruiser earlier this year, and no I didnt spot mice on board. Infact I thought its actually cleaner than the ever popular Pinta Cruise, but food and service are not as good.

We survived the trip- mice free. It was actually really nice although it was completely different from what we booked, or what we were told we booked. DH, 3 and 5 yo all loved it. It was good value for money, and the one thing they did get right were our meal requests. So all in all I say it was a successful trip.

Can you please advise us:

- What are differences between you are told and what you have been served? Is this the travel itinerary, the boat cabin or the food?

- What should be done to have better arrangement?

We are a travel agent in Hanoi, we need the information from the real travellers so that in the future we will provide the correct information to others.

One more thing that you may not like while travelling with this cruise as I see its bus everyday in the old quarter with too many people in it. Some keep their big bag in front. So if you have discount for your children, still ask and make sure that each of your child will have a seat on the bus. It is a long drive for children. Also, if you are the last people to get on the bus, I am not sure if you will be able to sit together.

I have not traveled with them but this is what I see everyday. So pls double check with the bus matter.

I just come back with my wife from our Phoenix "Deluxe" Cruiser (as Tropical Sails said). The "deluxe" adjective is really too much for a bad food, unfriendly staff and dirty rooms cruiser with rats and bugs. They don't even do what they tell in their brochure. I really sorry not to pay a few dollar more and went to other company like Indochina cruise
